Teenage figure skater Jenni Vartiainen joined the swelling ranks of Finland's talent show success stories when she won the country's Popstars show in 2002, with multi-platinum girl group Gimmel. Going solo in 2007 garnered her tremendous acclaim: her dark, billowing piano ballads and dance-floor synth-pop tracks tackle contemporary topics such as LGBT visibility (“Ihmisten Edessä”) and revenge porn (“Nettiin”). Vartiainen's haunting pop repertoire earned her a mammoth nine Emma Awards, her second album Seili sweeping the board in 2011.
