During his brief but prolific professional career, trumpeter Booker Little made his mark as a bandleader, but he also excelled under some of jazz's most visionary figures. Working with drummer Max Roach, he produces agile hard-bop on the brisk “Minor Mode”, but he pushes the boundaries further alongside alto saxophonist Eric Dolphy on “Fire Waltz” and brings simmering intensity to the modal incantations of John Coltrane on “Africa”.
