Bobby McFerrin Essentials

Innovative jazz-pop vocalist Bobby McFerrin was a late bloomer. After spending six years developing his unique style—a usually unaccompanied mixture of dazzling arpeggios, bouncing basslines (his father was an operatic baritone), scat singing and body percussion—McFerrin released his first album in 1982 at age 32. His 1988 hit single "Don't Worry, Be Happy" made him a reluctant international star and led him to assemble a 10-piece "Voicestra". Later he began singing alongside classical orchestras which he frequently conducts himself.
