Édith Butler Essentials

Singer-songwriter, folklorist and ethnologist Édith Butler has been a luminary of Acadian traditional music since the early ‘60s, recording and releasing LPs that have compiled an expansive oral history of Canada's rich French heritage. Butler was born in 1942 in the New Brunswick village of Paquetville, debuting in her teens with a collection of folk songs titled Chansons d'Acadie. Her vast discography oscillates between orthodox compositions of fiddle and bass on “La bastringue” and “Paquetville” and more modern interpretations of the Acadian songbook infused with pop and reggae on “L'arbre est dans ses feuilles”.
