About Steve Gunn

Steve Gunn is an eclectic singer-songwriter and guitarist, a prolific collaborator and free improviser, and a relentlessly questing performer and producer—always with an esoteric bent. Born in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, in 1977, Gunn entered music through Philadelphia’s hardcore scene in the ’90s and studied at Temple University, playing with psych-drone trio GHQ before moving to New York City in 2001. Following the release of his low-key solo debut in 2007, Gunn sharpened his artistic persona with 2013’s Time Off, a gorgeously mellow yet virtuosic guitar jubilee. The next year, he expanded his palette in jazzier and more international directions with Way Out Weather, and he reckoned directly with his painful childhood on 2019’s The Unseen In Between. Along the way, his numerous collaborators include Kurt Vile, Meg Baird, and cult British folkie Mike Cooper. Gunn’s journey of self-discovery continued with 2021’s lustrous Other You, which weaves together his career’s diverse strands into a colourful, if not entirely comfortable, tapestry.
