About Red Snapper

Creating instrumental music from textures and beats inspired by ambient dance music and hip-hop, Red Snapper’s music was an intriguing blend of trip-hop and jazz. Their jazz flavor comes not only from the upright bass and saxophone but also from their aesthetic of experimentation and improvisation, melding hip-hop and jungle rhythms to twangy '50s guitar and overblown saxophone. After releasing three EPs on their own Flaw Records label, they signed to Warp Records who collected the first three releases on 1995’s REELED AND SKINNED. Their debut album, PRINCE BLIMEY, emerged in 1996 and was followed by 1998’s MAKING BONES. After a difficult gestation, they returned to positive reviews with OUR AIM IS TO SATISFY (2000), whose unsettling dance-funk hybrid usurped the vibrant bounce of their earlier work.
