About Pat Metheny Group
Founded in 1977, the Pat Metheny Group was a jazz fusion troupe led by guitarist Pat Metheny and pianist Lyle Mays that featured an ever-changing lineup of musicians. ∙ Their 1979 album, American Garage, and 1982’s Offramp both reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Jazz LPs chart. ∙ They won 11 Grammy Awards, including five in the Best Jazz Fusion Performance, Vocal or Instrumental category. ∙ “This Is Not America,” their 1985 synth-rock collaboration with David Bowie for the movie The Falcon and the Snowman, reached No. 32 on the US Pop charts. ∙ The Pat Metheny Group’s lineup has included award-winning Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos, Cuban percussionist Luis Conte, and Argentinian musician Pedro Aznar. ∙ In 2015, the song “Last Train Home” was used as the closing theme for the Japanese anime JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders.
