About Kilian Herold

Clarinetist Kilian Herold is active domestically and internationally as a soloist, chamber music player, and orchestral musician. Herold's career began while he was still a student; in 2004, he became principal clarinetist of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. In 2011, he joined the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg, remaining a member of that group until 2016. In 2012, Herold joined pianist Amir Katz on his debut recording, featuring clarinet works by Brahms, Carl Reinicke, and Felix Draeseke. Herold's recordings include Vienna 1913: Brahms, Berg, Kornauth, Korngold, recorded with Hansjacob Staemmler. In 2024, Herold returned with a chamber group on the album Serenade for Clarinet & Strings: Krenek, Gál, Penderecki. Since 2016, Herold has been professor of clarinet at the Musikhochschule Freiburg.
