About Federico Mompou

Catalan composer Federico Mompou (1893-1987) spent many of his formative years in Paris, where he was influenced by Satie's surreal experimentalism and where he developed an individual voice that set him apart from prevailing trends in 20th century music. Throughout his long career, his music retained the lyricism, evocative simplicity, and sensuous austerity of his youthful works. He primarily wrote short pieces, especially piano music and songs, and even large works such as Musica Callada (Silent Music) consist of many small movements. Other significant compositions include the piano pieces 12 Cançons i dansas, 10 Préludes, and the song cycle Combat del somni.
