Angelo Mercuriale was active as a ranking comprimario singer (i.e., character part player) in Italian opera in the 1950s. As such he participated in several important opera recordings, including Tosca (as the Sacristan) with Maria Callas, Goro in Renata Tebaldi's Madama Butterfly, The Judge in Un Ballo in Maschera starring Bastianini, Bruno in the Callas-Serafin I Puritani, and the Notary in Joan Sutherland's La Sonnambula.
