Andres Mustonen

About Andres Mustonen

One of the first conductors from the Baltic countries to achieve international renown, Andres Mustonen remains among the most successful. Early on in his career, he cultivated a specialty in early music, which was quite rare in the former Soviet Union; he established his own ensemble, Hortus Musicus, with which he has performed and recorded widely. Mustonen made several recordings with Hortus Musicus in the early '90s, including Vasakungarnas hov. He released a recording of Silvestrov's Requiem für Larissa with the Munich Radio Symphony and Bavarian Radio Chorus in 2022. Mustonen is the founder of the MustonenFest Tallinn, which fosters musical exchanges between Estonia and Israel; he remains the festival's artistic director.
