The Complete Box features both the Replacements’ early albums and EP with the independent Twin/Tone label and their later work with Sire Records. No b-sides or bonus materials from the expanded editions are included. Just the brilliant material they released between 1981 and 1990: from the punk days of Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash and the Stink EP, the bizarre acoustic-electric fun of Hootenanny and the classic 1984 Let It Be album that defined indie/ alternative rock for a generation through to the major label one-two punch of Tim (produced by Tommy Ramone), Pleased To Meet Me (produced by Jim Dickinson in Memphis) and the commercially-striving Don’t Tell A Soul and the all-but-a-Paul-Westerberg solo album in name All Shook Down. This is the crash course a new fan requires. The magic is spread throughout from “Johnny’s Gonna Die” to “Go,” “Within Your Reach” to “Answering Machine,” “Bastards of Young” to “Alex Chilton,” “I’ll Be You” to “Sadly Beautiful.”
