Like The Clash and Mano Negra before them, Zebda are committed musical sponges, extremely political and easily bored. While the backbone of their music is sprung with muscular, uplifting funk, folk, hip-hop and rock, there are always extra multicultural instrumental touches—accordions, arab pipes and the odd orchestral sample for extra oomph—to further reinforce their all-inclusive worldview. Not for nothing was their putative political party called Motivé-e-s (“Motivated Ones”).
