Verzuz Cheat Sheet: Eve x Trina

Verzuz Cheat Sheet: Eve x Trina

On Wednesday, 16 June, the illustrious Verzuz series plays host to two of the most respected women in hip-hop, Eve and Trina. We could say that Philadephia's Eve has an advantage having been a part of Swizz Beatz’s Ruff Ryders camp, but that would be dismissive of all the work she put in as a self-proclaimed “pit bull in a skirt” tearing down records alongside The LOX, DMX and Drag-On (“Ryde or Die”) and The Roots (“You Got Me”), or her work as pop-conquering bestie to Gwen Stefani on “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” and Missy Elliott on “4 My People”. Miami’s own Katrina Laverne—better known as Trina—didn’t have quite the same pop aspirations, but she helped kick in the door for Florida hip-hop alongside one-time Slip-N-Slide labelmate Trick Daddy (“Nann N***a”, “Pull Over”) before staking her claim as one of the most dependable voices for female empowerment with songs like “Da Baddest Bitch”, “Don’t Trip” and “Single Again”. Though very different presences, Eve and Trina left their respective marks on the game through music that will turn a party out today the same way it did when first released. Get reacquainted with their catalogues by way of the official Eve x Trina Cheat Sheet playlist, as curated by Apple Music host Lowkey, and tune in on the 16th to celebrate their greatness.
