The Crusaders: Deep Cuts

The Crusaders racked up a string of vocal collaborations on top of all their soul-jazz and hard-bop gems. Many tracks explored new terrain: They teamed up with Joe Cocker for the gospel-inspired ballad “I'm So Glad I'm Standing Here Today” and turned The Beatles' “Help!” into a slow R&B plea with Tina Turner. They even joined forces with B.B. King for “Better Not Look Down”, mixing purring disco with the guitarist's velvety blues.
