Rats & Star Essentials

When Japanese group Chanels changed their name to Rats & Star in 1983, the smooth vocal group sparked a wave of nostalgia across Tokyo. During a run that ended in the late ’90s, Masayuki Suzuki, Masashi Tashiro and Nobuyoshi Kuwano dazzled with sharp sartorial style, cool charisma and a retro approach. Their signature sound foregrounded dazzling doo-wop harmonies, sly bursts of saxophone and energetic beats. The trio has since forged solo careers but the dance-floor-ready soul of their discography together spins on.
