MercyMe's brand of CCM comes infused with the sleek, melodic sensibility of alt-rock and a whole lot of pop panache. Early in their career the outfit leaned heavily on worship ballads that showed off Bart Millard's robust pipes—their 2000 breakout single, “I Can Only Imagine”, is a kind-hearted meditation on the awe of entering heaven. Since then, they've turned up the amps and the tempos: “In the Blink of an Eye” boasts punchy power pop guitars and pounding drums, and the radical “Shake” is a delirious, jumpy gospel rocker that shows off their penchant for bold sonic moves.
