Angolan rapper Joel Plácido spent his teen years in Paris before relocating to Porto, where he made his name. Inspiration, though, comes from all over. From the US, there's '90s jiggy rapper Pras, neo-soul queen Lauryn Hill and noughties rapper-singer Drake. In Portugal, scratch master DJ Ride and fiercely political rhymesmith Valete are among the many who helped inform his sound.
