About Vega

Spanish vocalist/recording artist Vega was born in Cordoba, Spain, on February 18, 1979, the middle child of three sisters. Like many gracing the Spanish charts, her visibility is thanks to the pop music competition TV show Operacion Triunfo. Though for the public her career started with her appearance on OT, Vega began performing publicly as early as age 14, playing in bars and at parties accompanying herself on guitar.

When she auditioned for OT she had been studying public relations in Segovia. She quickly established a reputation as a rebel among her competitors. Vega decided at the beginning of her solo recording career that, unlike other Operacion Triunfo veterans, she would be committed to recording only material that she liked, and would not be swayed by public opinion nor by record label pressure. Her first record, called India, was released in 2003. Nearly three years later, her sophomore effort Circular hit the market, with Vega's name in the writing credits for ten out of 12 tracks.

In 2009, she changed producers to Sebastian Krys and wrote all the songs for her third album Metamorfosis; it became a popular success, selling over 25,000 copies in her native country alone. She followed with 2011's La Cuenta Atras, another album written entirely by her and produced by Krys. For Vega's 2013 album Wolverines, she co-produced with Krys, and collaborated with artists including Raphael, Carla Morrison, Arturo Sandoval, and Xosé Manuel Budiño. Vega also recorded a collaboration with David Bisbal, and released two albums in 2017. First came Non Ho L'età, a tribute to Italian song recorded in Hollywood, and later that year came La Reina Pez, her sixth album of new material, this time recorded in Berlin. ~ Evan C.
