About The Amazers

A Chicago soul outfit led by Nappy Crayton, the Amazers were one of the earliest local acts signed by Curtom Records, in its first weeks of operation. Their stomping version of "Without a Warning," written by Lenny Brown and cut at the very first Curtom recording session and put onto the subsidiary Thomas label, was successful enough regionally to get picked up by Atlantic Records for national distribution. The group could never deliver a suitable follow-up, however, and they subsequently disappeared from the music scene. ~ Bruce Eder
