About Sir Elwoodin Hiljaiset Värit

Sir Elwoodin Hiljaiset Värit is a Finnish rock band that rose to mainstream success in the 1990s and remained popular for many years thereafter. Formed in 1988 in Helsinki, the band is comprised of Juha Lehti (vocals), Jussi Virtanen (guitar), Junnu Saaresaho (piano), Arttu Leskinen (drums), and Puppe Luomanmäki (bass). One of the founding members, Riku Järvinen (bass), died tragically in an accident in 2004 and was replaced with Luomanmäki. Sir Elwoodin Hiljaiset Värit made their album debut in 1991 with Varjoissa Vapaan Mailman, followed by Yö Tekee Meistä Varkaat in 1992. The band scored its first major hit with "Viimeisellä Rannalla," a single featured on the album Kymmenen Tikku Laudalla (1993). The single was later compiled on the greatest-hits compilation Varjoja, Varkaita ja Vanhoja Valokuvia (1998), which was released after the Top Five success of Puunukke (1997), the band's fifth album overall. Subsequent albums such as Pyhää Kamaa (1999) and Pohjoisesta Tuulee Taas (2001) were similarly popular, reaching the Top Ten if not the Top Five of the Finnish albums chart. Some of Sir Elwoodin Hiljaiset Värit's more popular singles include "Sua Seuraan," "Suomineito," and "Pahaa Verta." These singles and others were compiled on successive volumes of the Varjoja, Varkaita ja Vanhoja Valokuvia greatest-hits series released in 2005 and 2009. ~ Jason Birchmeier
