About Percubaba

French ska-funk collective Percubaba formed on the campus of Saint-Malo's Lycee Maupertuis in 1997. Two rival groups merged together to create the sprawling 11-member lineup, which included vocalists Dup, Gaston, and Bidou, guitarist Julien "Youl" Richter, bassist Arnaud "La Fauve" Fauvel, keyboardist Nicolas Meheust, saxophonist David "Vidda" Bonomi, trumpeter Jérôme "Mr. Lul" Paitry, trombonists Rudy Loos and Ronan Simon, and percussionists Dan "Danesh" Voisin and Joël "Jo-Hell" Daventry. After two years of relentless gigging, Percubaba cut their first four-song demo session in 1999, a year later founding their own label, Foutadawa, to release a self-titled debut LP. Dream and Strup followed in 2002, and two years later Percubaba finally issued a concert album documenting its much-acclaimed live set. The group's third studio effort, AntistatiQ, hit retail in the autumn of 2006. ~ Jason Ankeny
