About Mumbles

A deeply spiritual producer of hip-hop based out of Los Angeles, Mumbles is known for recordings and performances with the group Aceyalone, as well as the S.E.V.A. (or Spirit Evolution Via Awareness) collaboration with partner Dahvin Bugas, who is also known as Gone Beyond. Mumbles' background of turntable experimentation also includes work with groups such as U.N.I.T.Y. Committee and Jurassic. The son of jazz musician Steven Fowler, this artist may have taken on his stage name to avoid overloading the listening public with Fowler family members. The rapper, whose message is about as far from the bling and pimpin' scene as a thinking mind can get, is related to the Fowler Brothers dynasty of studio musicians and music educators. His uncles are, deep breath, Bruce Fowler, Tom Fowler, Walt Fowler and Ed Fowler. This flock of Fowler is noted for working with Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention as well as the later Grandmothers spin-off. It was his brother Marvin Fowler, or Marvski who brought the hip-hop influence around, however. This style of music captivated Mumbles at the age of five and he has yet to lose interest in it. He got into his first cooperative groups in the late '80s. Many of his songs have been given very simple titles, such as "The Hunt," "The March," and "The Reason." His major work is said to be a "meditative symphonic sampling odyssey" titled "Crossing the Ocean of Transmigration." ~ Eugene Chadbourne
