About Joy

Austrian dance-pop band Joy were formed in 1984 by Andy Schweitzer, Freddy Jaklitsch, and Manfred Temmel. Commercial success arrived with their second single, 1985's "Touch by Touch." The band's first album, 1986's Hello, was also a European dance chart hit. Riding a wave of success, Joy recorded their sophomore album, Joy and Tears, but in 1989 keyboardist Schweitzer began a solo career, using the name Joy on his album She's Dancing Alone (also known as 3rd). However, that release was unsuccessful during the house and techno wave of the early '90s. In 1995, new keyboardist Johannes Groebel joined the original Joy and appeared on their own new album, Full of Joy. That release faded into obscurity and shortly thereafter the bandmembers went their separate ways. ~ Yuri German
