About Jerry Tilitz

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Living on Park Slope in Brooklyn in the 70s and 80s I had a famous neighbor who also played the trombone. "I'm wondering when you're going to learn that lick I keep hearing you practice" Curtis Fuller would tease me when he saw me on the street. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Chet Baker, Chet Baker Sings J.J. Johnson, J.J.'s Broadway John Coltrane, Johnny Hartman, John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman Classics Immaculate playing from J.J. Johnson in a trombone front line setting. Johnny Hartman sings beautiful in tandem with a classic Coltrane performance and Chet Baker styles beautifully in a era that made him a pop star and a Jazz icon. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Love for Sale” Joe Gallardo blew a great solo on our latin version of the classic Cole Porter standard Love For Sale while the rest of the band beautifully supported this track with an amazing performance. Proud to be a part of this project. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Being awarded a grant from the National Endowment For The Arts as a young pro. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? A blues album, an album of my singing take on selected vocal classics, record a plethora of waiting original material, hone my trombone sound, write for my octet, re-activate Raging Bones, continue to organize local concerts in hamburg.
