Jack Gibbons

About Jack Gibbons

Jack Gibbons has been called "the Gershwin pianist of our time," and rightfully so. On four remarkable CDs recorded for the British ASV label, he reconstructed and recorded virtually all of George Gershwin's piano improvisations (taken from the composer's recordings of the 1920's and 30's) and arrangements for piano. Somehow Gibbons managed to not only play Gershwin's notes but to bring back his spirit. Jack Gibbons started playing piano early on, was performing in public by the time he was ten and made his London debut at 17. He has primarily interpreted classical music with orchestras and he won awards as a teenager for his performances of music by Liszt, Chopin and Alkan. Gibbons started recording classical music in 1992 but it his recreations of George Gershwin's legacy that is most notable. ~ Scott Yanow
