About Dave Zup

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I was a kid, my dad had a red Pontiac convertible. I remember riding around with the top down listening to KC and the Sunshine Band, Sly and the Family Stone, George Benson, and so many more. I smile every time I think back to those days. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? David Bowie, Low (2017 Remaster) JAY-Z, American Gangster (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Prince, 1999 2019 Remaster Don't take this as a definitive answer for my top 3 favorite albums ever. Instead, let's just say that I revisit these albums quite often. To me these bodies of work exemplify experimentation, groove, and storytelling. They will never get old to me. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Vignettes (feat. Elijah Banks)” I wrote Vignettes in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the first time I explored the idea of leaving my career in music. Strangely, I felt peace. This song is about knowing that success in music doesn't have to equal fame and riches. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I once played a show at a doughnut shop in Texas. I was paid with doughnuts! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? There are so many things on my artistic bucket list. For now, I'd say the biggest one would be scoring a feature-length film and working with an orchestra on the soundtrack.
