Leyendas de Mi Pueblo

Leyendas de Mi Pueblo

Having established his own legend on more than a dozen albums, mariachi innovator Jose Hernandez pays tribute to six of the greatest singers and songwriters his native Mexico produced in the 20th century: Javier Solís, Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante, José Alfredo Jiménez, Miguel Aceves Mejía and Vicente Fernández. Putting aside his love of American jazz and his genre-redefining fusions of vintage folk and modern pop-rock, Hernandez conjures a lushly orchestrated and unexpectedly retro sound across Leyendas de Mi Pueblo. He piles on the romantic strings in honour of singer-turned-actor Infante’s love of grand melodies, channels the near-operatic passion of Jiménez on the album’s epic-length centrepiece, and pays faithful homage to mariachi’s golden age throughout.
