After releasing an album of honky-tonk-era covers in 2005, Jimmie Dale Gilmore followed up with a batch of early country, bluegrass and folk tunes backed by string band The Wronglers. Gilmore's Willie Nelson-esque quaver lends itself well to this high-lonesome mountain music, whether he's tackling the wistful Carter Family standard "I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes" or depicting the gritty street-life scenarios of "Deep Ellum Blues", making for yet another album of warmhearted roots music from an unheralded country legend.
