Felipe el Hombre does away with all unnecessary adornment in this revision of heavy, hard-hitting '70s rock. Hearing his debut EP brings to mind classics like Led Zeppelin and the Allman Brothers and more recent riff-revivalists like Dead Meadow. But the Mexican trio has its feet planted firmly into the 21st century and manages to sound resolutely contemporary as well. Highlights include "Fear," a sinuous track that's built on raucous elements of classic blues, and "More," an unapologetic rock 'n' roll bruiser.
