Four albums in, Courteeners are playing to 25,000-strong crowds and their songs remain suitably anthemic. However, the Mancunians gain greater traction by stretching beyond their indie-rock beginnings. “Next Time You Call” is a swaggering fusion of R&B and rock, while “Summer” is fleet-footed ’80s pop-funk. Even the straightforward guitar rush of “How Good It Was” is adrenalising enough to ensure there won’t be a return to the toilet circuit anytime soon.
