In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Just before Prince offered me my first record deal, I had my own band. Prior to that I sang in 4 Jazz bands and 1 R&B band. Prince originally asked me to be in his new girl band, but I told him "I'm a solo artist", and he signed me as a solo artist. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Earth, Wind & Fire, That's the Way of the World Lauryn Hill, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill SZA, Saturn - Single I have many more favorites. I love SZA's lyrics and melodies, Lauryn Hill is a genius, Earth Wind & Fire share timeless wisdom with superb musicianship. I love Prince's Future Soul Song. I have fond memories of him playing it for me pre release. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Love Is Contagious” This was the first song I wrote. It became a top 10 single on my first Paisley Park CD. I'm so happy that the song represents the key value of spreading love in our world. Prince was the one who decided it should be the first single on my debut CD. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I was summoned to Paisley Park, and to my delight Prince offered me a record deal. Only days before, I had just been accepted in to the Berklee College of Music. I took the record deal and the first song became a big hit. It changed my life. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I want to continue writing and recording high quality music that is authentically in line with my values, and that touches many souls in an uplifting way. And yes, sell millions.
