Tommy Cash’s ticket to online stardom was the surreal, bare-skinned video for 2016 single “Winaloto”, his heavily accented, satirical verses introducing millions to the sound that the Tallinn MC baptised “post-Soviet rap”. Cash married trap, techno and Eurodance in 2018 album ¥€$, dropping mood-enhancing synths and pop-tinged choruses throughout. But the rapper’s boundary-pushing stylings also led to intriguing European collaborations; in 2019 he featured in tracks with Berlin electronic duo Modeselektor and UK pop maverick Charli XCX, bringing Cash’s idiosyncratic beats to a wider audience.
