Tindersticks Essentials

Tindersticks Essentials

Tindersticks' sophisticated sound has always seemed at odds with the prevailing trends of the U.K. indie scene. Formed in 1992 and fronted by the rich baritone of Stuart Staples, the band's intense melancholic sound, often lavishly orchestrated and influenced by the likes of Scott Walker, John Barry, Burt Bacharach and classic soul, has garnered much critical praise. Even a five-year hiatus ending in 2008 and wholesale lineup change did not affect the flow of acclaimed releases. Tindersticks are also noted for scoring soundtracks for the films of French director Claire Denis.
