The Dead Milkmen Essentials

The Dead Milkmen were the great pranksters of the '80s punk underground, with lead ranter Joe Genaro as eager to criticise the pretensions of his scene as he was to rip into the boorishness of mainstream society. In the same breath, the band could pen shaggy cow-punk numbers like "Stuart" that mocked paranoid homophobes, before turning around and delivering sugary sing-alongs like “Punk Rock Girl” that poked fun at self-impressed hipsters. The Milkmen were also music geeks whose tastes went far beyond punk, as heard on songs like "If You Love Someone Set Them On Fire", which takes on herky-jerky ska while still making time for a Doors joke.
