Hawkwind: Deep Cuts
Apple Music
Hawkwind's cosmic vision takes some unexpected twists on their post-'70s records. All that psychedelic exploration gives way to not only a lot of economical jams utilising hard rock's tough riffs and hook-driven songwriting (“Needle Gun”), but also one-off experiments like “Black Elk Speaks”, incorporating sampling and Native American-style drumming, and a cover of the Stones' “Gimme Shelter” featuring bluesy cries from pop singer Samantha Fox.
