François Morel is a true Renaissance man, a prolific actor, author and comedian who, since the mid-'00s, has also been moonlighting as a crooner. And true to his stage pedigree, he puts a theatrical spin on the chanson tradition, filling up his 2006 debut, Collection particulière, with string-swept bossa nova (“Faut faire avec”) and frantic, accordion-powered character studies (“Monsieur Pedro Ramires”). And his sense of humour is never far from the surface—on 2010's “La Fille du GPS”, he applies the Gainsbourg/Birkin duet template to a love song about a man and his car's mapping system.
