Edith Frost Essentials

Somewhere between high lonesome country and low-key psychedelic pop sits Edith Frost, the Texas-born troubadour whose 1997 debut deftly bridged the worlds of lo-fi indie rock and pensive, twangy torch songs. Frost's tunes are marvels of unexpected textures and combinations. On “Temporary Loan”, murky, plodding electric guitar and bass give way to the keening fiddle of a morose hootenanny; on the gently trippy “Bluish Bells”, off 1998's Telescopic, Frost's deadpan vocals are haloed in chiming coronas of cymbals and a thick fug of distortion. Her mesmerising, moody landscapes will draw you in.
