Eddie Cochran Essentials

Eddie Cochran notched not just one but an entire string of classic odes to teenage alienation. On top of “Summertime Blues”, a growling rockabilly rave-up released in 1958 and eventually covered by the likes of The Who and Blue Cheer, he unleashed “C’mon Everybody” and the absolutely feral “Somethin’ Else”. Yet for all the rebelliousness fueling his music, the sharp-dressed singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Southern California was ultimately a meticulous craftsman and sonic pioneer. His novel use of bending guitar strings, overdubs, and bassy distortion would serve as foundational elements for hard rock and early heavy metal.
