Autechre's mind-boggling complexity is derived in part from the unlikely range of the U.K. duo's influences. They got their B-boy-friendly grooves from hip-hop and electro acts like Mantronix and Public Enemy, their cut-up chops from Meat Beat Manifesto and their sleek futurism from Derrick May and LFO. Xenakis and Parmegiani, meanwhile, schooled them in avant-garde possibilities.
