Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti: Influences

Ariel Pink's absurdist pop sensibility can be traced back to rock's original Dadaist, Frank Zappa, and on through ‘80s lo-fi savants like Daniel Johnston and modern-day psychedelic surrealists (and mentors) Animal Collective. But his warped, decayed-cassette production corrupts the smooth ‘80s sounds of Hall & Oates classics with the goth gloominess of The Cure and the primitive electronics of Throbbing Gristle.
