About Nikki Yeoh

b. 23 May 1973, London, England. Daughter of an English mother and a Chinese-Malaysian father, Yeoh began playing piano as a tiny child and proved to be a gifted pianist. While still in her late teens, she became a professional musician. In 1996, she won The Independent award for Best Jazz Musician Of The Year and in 1999, was a semi-finalist in a Montreux jazz piano contest. Yeoh became a very well known session musician, playing often with leading jazz musicians and also with pop artists. Those with whom she has played include Peter Bengtson, Phillip Bent, Neneh Cherry, Eddie Harris, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Joanna MacGregor, Courtney Pine, Barak Schmool, Cleveland Watkiss and Steve Williamson. Yeoh’s composing is highly contemporary in approach and style and she utilizes computers in developing ideas and concepts. She has had compositions commissioned by Oxford Contemporary Music and others. As a solo artist and leading her band, Infinitum, she has toured the UK, Europe, Latin America and the Far East. In addition to performing, Yeoh also teaches at London schools.
