Manuel Angel Vergara Tenorio, aka Manu Tenorio, was born in Seville in 1975, and the death of his father at a young age left him in the care of his mother and an uncle. Tenorio began teaching himself guitar and voice at an early age. Upon the urging of a musician friend, he applied for and joined the cast of the reality TV show Operacion Triunfo, which garnered him a sizable fan base. His eponymous debut album was released in April 2002 and sold more than 500,000 copies in less than two months, spending two weeks at number one on Spain's national charts. Tenorio sustained a successful solo career throughout the following decade; his sixth solo album, En Primera Persona, arrived in 2012. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez
