Barusta

With the release of the EP The Game in the spring of 1998, the music press had found their most promising debutantes that year. A few months later, the single "Satellite" became a big radio hit, making Barusta known outside the ranks of critics. By the time Evolution was released in November, the hype had grown to a level of promising disappointment, but few critics found the debut album less than brilliant. The hit "Satellite" sounded like if the Stooges had hired decent musicians and replaced Iggy Pop with a female vocalist, but much of the album was more introspective and included some electronic elements among the guitars and organs. The producer was Micke Herrström, except for one track, which was produced by Ebbot Lundberg from Soundtrack of Our Lives. The well-known trumpet player Goran Kajfes also appeared on the album. The band's name came from the singer Nathalie Barusta, who worked as a designer and had sung with the Sirens until she had been forced to quit due to illness. Teaming up with her friend Carl Larsson from Honey Is Cool, she formed Barusta. The other two members were guitarist Niclas Löfgren and drummer Anders Göransson. After the successful debut, Carl Larsson left Honey Is Cool to concentrate on Barusta, and in 1999, the band appeared at almost every festival in Sweden. The following two years, nothing much was heard from the members of Barusta except for Löfgren cooperating with Silverbullit's Jon Ölmeskog on a project inspired by Make Up. ~ Lars Lovén
