Whether it’s the first album they made together in 24 years—2023’s Fuse—or the records that set them on their course in the ’80s and ’90s, Everything But the Girl always manage to find the sweet spot between jazz-inspired instrumentation, danceable electronic music and introspective singer-songwriter fare. To celebrate Fuse’s release, the husband-and-wife duo of Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn assembled a set of Selects—the playlist that showcases DJs’ and producers’ favourite tracks of any given moment—in a similar vein. “We don’t want to suggest these are influences, but you might find some kind of common thread,” Watt tells Apple Music of their playlist. “It is just a snapshot of the kind of playlist that goes on at our place,” says Thorn. “Things we love. Old stuff, new stuff. Plus occasionally our stuff.” To wit, that gamut ranges from Todd Rundgren and Bobby Caldwell to Sam Gendel and DJ Koze.
