Spandau Ballet Essentials

London's Spandau Ballet had a chart-topping hit with their 1980 debut single, "To Cut a Long Story Short." From there onwards, the Islington five-piece—who seemed to emerge fully formed from the then-nascent New Romantic scene—went on to enjoy a salvo of glossy, saxophone-streaked Top 10 hits, including “True”, "Through The Barricades” and “Gold”. For many, that song captures the jazzy, aspirational sophisti-pop that ruled the charts during the Thatcher years.
