Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes came to fame in the '70s as a sort of little-brother group to Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, but while they may share a Jersey Shore bar-band background, Johnny has always had a sound of his own. His full-bodied vocals drip some deep soul across edgy, emotionally intense tunes like “Take It Inside” that blend brassy '60s R&B flavours with rootsy but undeniably urban rock 'n' roll, while good-time tunes like Johnny's cover of Sam Cooke's "Having a Party" balance singalong-ready lyrics with hammering piano and smile-inducing guitar licks.
