Opus 1

A composer’s Opus 1 is rarely the first piece they composed. More often, it’s the first work they published, and even then, opus numbers weren’t really used until Beethoven, meaning the catalogue numbers of many composers before him (and since) have been posthumously added by scholars. Still, it’s a good place to begin surveying the early works of composers, some of which you can experience in this playlist.
