Nils Wülker Essentials

This German trumpeter has demonstrated a feel for American pop-jazz that's so pure he sounds like a native. Wülker's burnished, lyrical lines during tracks like 2007's “Safely Falling” call to mind the mellow sophistication of Chris Botti, and his collaboration with neo-soul legend Jill Scott on “Worth the Wait” has a slinky, seductive feel—traits that are accentuated even more on Caspar Olsn's remix. He's also explored some tricky post-bop lines (“My Game”), and on the 2010 album 6, he leans into some light, funky fusion riffing.
