Courbevoie-born singer Michel Delpech starting his journey by going against the grain in the early '60s when he released a classic bit of chanson, “Chez Laurette”, amid the yé-yé boom that had just liberated French pop from its old-fashioned origins. His sentimental yet good-humoured voice saw him through, and by the end of the decade he had found widespread favour by introducing a winking flirtatiousness to his work. It won him the acclaim that allowed him to return to more serious, classic modes later in his long, distinguished career.
